The RSSU School Champions’ Cup Crossed the Equator

Tuesday, January 31 the games of the fifth round of the RSSU School Champions’ Cup were played in the lecture rooms of the Russian State Social University. We should remind you that more than 740 young chess players struggle these days for the entries for the participation in the School World Championship to be held in Iasi, Romania this April.

Nikita Fomin (Moscow region) and Tagir Vafin (Kazan) with 5 victories top the table in the tournament of the youngest age group – U9 Boys (born in 2008 or earlier). 6 participants scored 4,5 points.

Kamilla Olesk (Veliky Novgorod) with 5 points is the only leader in the U9 Girls’ competition. Olesya Vlasova (Voronezh) with half a point less is on the second place. Nine participants scored 4 points.

There are three leaders in the U11 Boys’ group: Roman Fridman, Alexey Vasiliev (both from Moscow) and Matvey Nikolaev (Leninogorsk). They show a 100% result.

Anna Krupnova (Moscow) with 5 points is leading among U11 Girls. Two players are chasing the leader – Sofia Borodkina (Nizhny Novgorod) and Evita Cherepanova (Rostov region) with 4,5 scored points.

Alexey Popovich (Khanty-Mansi autonomous okrug - Yugra) and Ivan Zhukov (Krasnoyarsk) suffer no losses so far in the U13 Boys’ tournament. Nikolay Belkov (Vladivostok) is half a point behind the leaders.

Ekaterina Shubina (Moscow region) takes the lead in the U13 Girls’ event. She won all of her games. Ksenia Pargesyan (Moscow) with 4,5 points occupies the second line. Four players managed to score 4 points each.

U15 Boys’ tournament has a sole leader Danbar Shoboev (Ulan-Ude) with 5 points. Dzhabrail Kamaev (Dagestan) is half a step behind the leader. Three more participants with one point less follow the leader.

Lada Il’ina (Moscow) and Ekaterina Gyrgenova (Ulan-Ude) scored 4 points each in the Girls’ tournament of the same age group. Four more female players with half a point less follow the leader.

The participants of the competitions will have to play four more rounds. The Award Ceremony of the winners will take place February 5.
